Our Roots: A Family Story

MAD Mowers is more than just a business—it's a family legacy. The story began with our ninth child, Mark Amos Drapper, whose initials inspired our company name. From a young age, Mark faced significant challenges with reading and writing, leading some to label him as dyslexic or autistic. However, we always saw him as gifted and unique, with a natural talent that couldn’t be taught in traditional classrooms.

While academia was tough for Mark, engines were his playground. He spent hours at the recycling centre, buying scrap lawnmowers for £3, fixing them up, and selling parts on eBay. His passion and skill with engines grew, and after gaining valuable experience at the local “Mike’s Mowers,” Mark took a bold step to start his own venture. Thus, MAD Mowers was born, starting out in our back garden under an orange gazebo in Stockwood.

From Garden Gazebo to Workshop

As Mark's business grew, so did our family's involvement. Andrew, who had worked nights as a porter at The George Albert Hotel, began helping part-time. When the COVID lockdown led to his redundancy, Andrew joined the business full-time. Our youngest son, Michael, soon came on board as well, assisting during the summer.

Michael’s contribution was pivotal. Alongside repairing mowers, he developed a passion for the business side of things—customer service, marketing, management, and leadership. His unique set of skills drove MAD Mowers to new heights, focusing on sales and business development.

Moving Forward: Our New Home at Wardon Hill

By last summer, MAD Mowers had outgrown our garden setup. We needed more space to keep up with our expanding operations. After some searching, we found the perfect spot at Unit 4, Wardon Hill Business Park. This new unit provided room for a showroom and enough space to continue growing our business.

Today, MAD Mowers is thriving, with over 750 satisfied customers and a strong reputation for servicing and repairing machinery for large businesses. We even negotiate sales of high-end commercial equipment, all while maintaining our family-run ethos.

Our Family is Your Family

We’ve built MAD Mowers without taking out any loans, relying solely on reinvested earnings and our close-knit family team. The newest additions to our team include our Trainee Technician, Ollie, and Cornelius, our sixth child, who leads our social media efforts with his videography and media skills. Wayne, our full-time mechanic, ensures that every mower leaving our workshop meets our high standards.
